unfinished business

(cardboard in the windows)

(powder room sink on the floor)

(storage cubby in the stairwell with missing doors)

(wires sticking out everywhere!)

(missing light fixtures)

(missing trim kit for the microwave)

(missing deck)

(and then there's the room full of furniture I need to get rid of)

Now you know why I haven't shown you my house yet.

Plus, my sewing room is still a wholelotta this ...

looks okay to me.
My parents just moved into a senior living place and they did not reallly downsize because of various reasons: mom had a stroke, I moved them to Virginia from Maryland (65 miles) last year. So their house is full of boxes and dad just unpacks and mulls over the stuff. I keep reminding him to take his time and winter will be a great time to hang the artwork.
So, you can do that too!

I've lived in 12 houses in my life. Six in my adulthood. Moving is always stressful and costly. One room at a time, like where you eat and sleep and if your sewing skills make money, get busy on that room first. I look forward to seeing your progress. Oh, and ARG!!!!! Snow doesn't help right now!

Best,
Sheila

I'd suggest to just keep moving at your own pace. I have not moved to a smaller space, however, I have been downsizing and decluttering. My BFF and I had a garage sale several weeks ago and sold stuff at ten cents on the dollar. We donated lots of stuff. And almost gave away some things, one by accident. But those vintage buttons were going to a new home of a woman who loved them. I just signed when I found out and let it go. I combined an art room and my sewing room into one small room. It isn't picture worthy but it's done. The room I emptied is now a yoga studio with plenty of room for me to get on the mat.

As for snow in September? Doesn't surprise me at all.

This too shall pass. But keep smiling, look at what is done, and you are officially moved! I loved the advice from Sheila, she is spot on. Easy to get discouraged, but Keep Calm and Carry on! At least you have power! After losing ours for some time due to terrible storms that blew through here, I would count that as a plus, you are very Blessed.

Been there, done it! Take a deep breath, know you are not super woman! Tackle one project at a time to completion, than move on to the next. You have no one to compete with but yourself. Those of us who follow you and love your art, will wait for you...

I know you'll read what I'm going to say from others as well, but it's still worth saying: enjoy the process! You have been looking forward to your new house for so long - this is part of having a new house, so try and enjoy it! As others have suggested, clear the most important parts first, like your sewing room. It might not be how you would ideally like it, but even having enough space to create (something, anything!) will give you peace and still your soul. Take photos of the little places you're really pleased with - and remember your Grateful Journal.
We are with you on this journey, and I for one appreciate you sharing it with us. Now smile, and go and search out your most favourite, lovely, piece of fabric, and tell me what you're going to make with it!

Hi! I've been reading your blog for a few months now. I can't remember now how I found it, but I love all your pretty things you make and your beautiful embroidery. I am a mom of four boys and very rarely have a reason to make anything "pretty" like you do. I do by myself pink stuff whenever I can because I know that no one else will borrow it if it is pink. =) If I were you in a "still in process" house with snow outside in September I would go in my kitchen and bake something sweet that will fill the house with yummy smells and make it cozy. Then eat some of it! =)

It always takes longer than you want it to, doesn't it?! :( It's going to be beautiful! *Hugs*

Looks like a real house to me! We all have something unfinished somewhere in our houses, or a room, or drawer, or closet, chock full of stuff. Boxes still unpacked after two or three moves :-). But it's home, a refuge from the outside, a place for family and friends to be themselves. Don't worry about all that's still unfinished. You'll get it done eventually. :-)

And when it is finished it will be perfect, just like all your work. RELAX! It will be finished when it's finished!

I thought maybe the first picture was blocking out the view of the snow...silly me. I bet your house is still beautiful! It will all come together someday soon.

That darned snow sure puts a stinky in it, doesn't it!?
Your house will become your home at its own pace. It will all come together just as you hoped and just as you planned and all just in time. You'll see, I promise :)
Now, go do whatever it is that makes your heart sing. Your soul will thank you.

It will all get done eventually. Enjoy what is done, and try not to stress about the rest.
