first blush ~ and a festive seasonal bunting

Hello and welcome to my stop on the First Blush Blog Hop!

When I was invited to participate in this blog hop, I looked at the fabric and thought, "Oh how cute!"  When I opened the bundle a few weeks ago, it was the beginning of October and ... well ... I guess I had Halloween on the brain because I was immediately drawn to the orange, yellow, and white prints.  Next thing I knew I was making a Candy Corn Bunting.

These versatile prints worked so well for this no-sew craft project.  They're super fun to mix and match and are the perfect scale.

I lined each linen triangle with fusible interfacing for body and to support the eyelets.  Then I just used fusible web to adhere the candy corn pieces to each triangle.  I made sure the darkest fabric (orange) is on top so it wouldn't "shadow" through the lighter colours if it was underneath.  And I didn't even bother machine stitching around the edges.  (Shhh, don't tell my mom!)  I suppose I should have, but I figured this bunting isn't going to see any wear.  So I left it raw. ;)

This project required a few trips to the fabric store.  The first time I bought the eyelets, and super skinny ribbon & tulle in orange, yellow and white.

Unfortunately, the skinny ribbon was too skinny.  It just looked super wimpy.  And the tulle?  It is soooooo wispy that I needed way too much volume to make it visible.  So I reluctantly let that element go, and went for a wider ribbon.  It turned out great.  The ribbons really play well with the prints.  And it looks great on my mantle!

Hope my little seasonal make inspires you to be creative with First Blush!  Here are all the other stops on this hop.

Your bunting is crazy cute and you got a chance to use yellow. My favorite Halloween decoration is a 3 foot tall witch I made about 15 years ago with long orange raffia hair, a green felt face, and big plastic bugs on her dress. She fits over a tomato cage. It's exra special because my cat who is since deceased chewed her hand and although someone wanted to buy her I couldn't part with her because my Raley bit her. She looks out the window every day.

We moved into our first house (many years ago!) just before Halloween so I bought a ceramic jack-o-lantern with a light in it for our first decoration. It's my favorite for sentimental reasons.

Years ago I bought some pre-carved foam pumpkins at Target. You plug them in and they light up and made the best decorations for my big kitchen window. I use cake plates to lift some of them up higher.

I would decorate for Fall with small pumpkins & gourds. I love the variety of gourds available. I have a Fall tablerunner with a ceramic handmade dish full of different colored gourds sitting out. Halloween is not a specific holiday I decorate for normally.

I like to bring in long strands of bittersweet, with the leaves taken off. The yellow-orange berries open up to reveal dark orange underneath - nice contrast. We put these on our mantel. Thank you for this giveaway!

I love the table runner that I made. I made it a hexagon shape and used my embroidery machine to embroidery a Halloween design in each of the wedges. Using Halloween fabric, it is really cute!!

My favorite decoration is really a collection of them -- pumpkins I've made or altered over the years. I have a crocheted one, a velvet one with a real stem, a plastic one I cross-stitched on with yarn, another I covered with book pages, etc.

My generation of Belgians doesn't really "do" Halloween. I didn't even know such a festival existed until we moved abroad and became part of an expat community with many Americans in it. There my brothers and I enjoyed joining the celebrations of our friends. Since a few years all the shops in Belgium seem to go orange and black in October and a sort of heavily commercialized version of Halloween is "celebrated" here, too. Although so far I haven't done any real Halloween decorating, I do like pumpkins, or orange and purple Chrysanthemums (the flower of choice to put on the graves of loved ones for All Saints in Belgium, maybe in the US, too?).
It's a really pretty fabric line. I would love to win some. I would make more teacups, like the ones here: http://meynensoutenboom.blogspot.be/2016/07/an-extra-block-and-tea-fot-two-tea-cup.html.

We don't tend to celebrate Halloween in New Zealand, although it is starting to become a thing. I have just purchased a pattern to make some little wool felt pumpkins. Hopefully I'll get them done in time to have a basket of them on display.

I love all the Halloween and Fall Season colors, candy, pumpkins, etc., but this year I made a cute Halloween pumpkin pillow - from Cluck Cluck's quilt pattern. This is my favorite decoration! I hope to do the quilt next year. Love your blog and all your great posts! Thanks for a great give away!

Halloween is my husbands FAVORITE holiday so he can be silly, and I love fall...so we DECORATE. Ihave so many things I love I dont think there is a favorite, but if I chose something I MADE that was my favorite it would be the little decorative quilted fall leaves I made to lay out around a centerpiece on my table. They turned out ammmmazing. I made the table runner, the pumpkins and so much more too, and lots and lots of goofy Halloween items for my grandkids and the biggest kid of them all...my hubby.

I love your sweet bunting in those sugary soft colours - such a nice change from the classic Halloween orange and black. I tend to decorate with a mix of brights in a Day of the Dead style palette, with lots of skulls thrown in.

Oh your bunting is so super sweet. Would love to see it in my great niece's bedroom. My favorite Halloween decoration is a little pumpkin mug my daughter made when she was in second grade. I have cherished it for many year.
