Farmer's Wife Quilt Along Week 26
Yellow & Gray
Is this color combination still trendy? Or is it like so totally last year and I'm just embarrassing myself? I gotta say, when I started seeing yellow & gray everywhere I was getting a little annoyed. Never really warmed to either color. And putting the two together looked like ... well ... kinda sorta like dog pee on the sidewalk.
Sorry. But it's Friday and I'm allowing my self a little grossology license today. Have I ever mentioned I have an occasionally-difficult-to-restrain gross streak in me?
(All my friends are going, "OCCASIONALLY?!!")
HOWEVER, since the new Flower Sugar line has both gray AND yellow in it, I've been forced to reconsider yet another one of my very narrow-minded opinions.
Happy me. Another horizon broadened. :)
And despite the typically modern look this color pairing always seemed to have, I think these blocks look decidely old fashioned ... I think because of the pretty little rosy posies.
Block #29 - Economy
Why oh why am I compelled to fussy cut all these center blocks?! Can't - help - it.
Block #77 - Seasons
I think this week is the first time I've used the same prints in reverse colors. This block has the gray version of the yellow print & the yellow version of the gray print in the first block. Love it.
Now if I tried to explain how exciting that is to a non-crafty quilty person, they'd look at me like my big toe was trying to come out my nose.
But I know YOU get it. :) YOU know what I'm talkin' about. YOU know that such considerations are not only rational, they're critical to our general well being.
Have a great weekend everyone!

Again awesome blocks! My favorite this week is economy, simply love the fussy- cut-single-rose in the center.

that gray and yellow is such a nice combination.
I love those blocks. I havent participated in the Farmers wife, but think all the blocks are fabulous.
I love the yellow and grey combination. In think the last time it was trendy was waaayyyy back when I was in jr. high - in the 80's! I don't know if it's "in" now (I think so) but I like it regardless :)
I do enjoy a good yellow/grey pairing, but wouldn't go so far as to decorate my home in these colours =) I think your blocks look lovely in all their urine analogy glory!
More very pretty blocks!!!
'pee on the sidewalk' way too funny! LOL
love your fabrics and perfect points!
You fussy cut because you have vision....you should become an interior decorator. You're fab at the details! ;0
Have a wonderful weekend and stay warm up there! ;0
I'm personally not sold on the yellow and grey, but the blocks are pretty, how many more blocks are there?
Hugs from over sea's

They look great.and I love how you reversed the fabrics. I spotted this before you mentioned it, so I guess thst means I'm crafty. As in, craft-inclined, not sneaky in the doing of mischief. Oh wait, I'm that too :)
I've never thought of yellow and grey being pee on the side walk, but now that you mention it.... ;)
Lol!! Your thoughts on yellow and gray were exactly the way that I was thinking too, but now I've seen so much that it's starting to grow on me as well. Though the yellow definitely needs to be on the softer side for me. Those blocks look gorgeous and thanks for broadening our horizons!
The fussy cut centers rock! YOU Rock! Love the combo - I never would have thought to do that...combine yellow and gray but it works.... and looks great!!!! and by the way... dog pee on the sidewalk? BahaHA HA ha..... there goes my mascara again.... :O) Bari Jo
I'm a bad, bad girl - I didn't do my two blocks this week! I have to say I'm not too fussed about the yellow and grey ...... I'm just not a fan of yellow! I would have used pink and grey - we get wonderful pink and grey sunsets here1
Have a good weekend.
Truly enjoyed the dog pee comment... I totally agree. :-) LOL But, I have to admit, these are once again beautiful blocks! Don't know how you do it!
I love the yellow and grey combo. And yes, I believe it is still trendy. In fact, I'm so out of things lately, I thought it just started. The Flower Sugar collection is wonderful and I've been enjoying all your blocks so far. Can't wait to see how they will look when you're finished. It's going to be a gorgeous quilt.
I noticed the fussy cuts and reverse fabric colors and loved both even before I read that part! Don't worry - all quilters have this. I think it must just be genetic. Your blocks look really good!
So pretty! I like grey with most colours. It's pretty versatile. I hardly ever use it though.
Well...before I even read your post I saw your blocks and it was love at first sight. I think the color combination is delightful! Then I read your post and you had me laughing out loud. I tried to explain to my hubby what I was laughing at and he just shrugged and went on his way. You are absolutely right about all off these considerations being critical to our peace of mind and satisfaction with our projects, I do have one question however...Exactly what does it look like to see ones big toe trying to come out of their nose??? LOLOL, I have never heard this phrase before but I hope you don't mind if I borrow it. I quite fancy it. Big Hugs...
Yup! I love your way with words...dog pee on the sidewalk. Too funny!!! Love your way with fabrics too! Love to fussy cut.
Fabulous blocks. Great analogy, too. lol
You made me laugh with the toe and nose, the dog, the pee and the sidewalk and yes, I get your grossology and I giggle when it pops out.
Fussiness with fabric is fine. I have it more than I thought. If there is a cure, please let me know. I'm still dithering with the tutorial you shared because of it. ;)
I love the grey yellow combination. I think grey helps ground brighter colors. Kind of reminds me of the grey in the Sunkissed line, which I love. As usual, your blocks are perfect!
You absolutely crack me up! dog pee on the side walk? big toe coming out your nose? Just what I needed after a day of cooking my behind off and then eating my weight in food (and putting it back on). So funny! Love your blocks!
Thanks for a great chortle! You are one funny girl. Gray is quite the thing now and has been for awhile, as you know. Your blocks work beautifully because of the darling little posey and the white. You rock when it comes to color combining. I always learn something from your posts. I would have to fussy cut too. Just have to.
More pretty blocks and I love the same prints/reverse colours! Oh, and I also love the fussy cut centre - it makes such a difference!
I'm liking that colour combo, and can i say how perfect your peicing is. Never ever zoom in on anything i sew. (my motto is near enough is good enough)oops now I can here you screaming all the way over here.
xx
K, I LOVE these blocks. the fabrics are crazy beautiful and I need to get them. I, btw, am sitting here feeling as pukey as can be but your blog is so pretty... keep it up my dear! xo xoxo amy
loving this color combo! so pretty.
I adore grey and yellow together and if you don't still think they are fab, then your big toe is growing out yer nose.
