Scrap Pencil Case
Ok. First of all, THANK YOU SO MUCH for all the Messenger Bag love yesterday! Wow. You guys made me blush & tear up ... all at the same time. A girl could get used to that kind of affirmation! I'll try to not let it go to my head. ;)
And I've heard the hue & cry for a pattern/tutorial. Gee whiz! I'm totally blown away. This feels so nice to have people not only like what I made, but want to make one too. I think I should wait and let my daughter "test drive" the bag for a bit ... see if any fatal design flaws show up. I'll keep you posted.
Now I'm afraid that Messenger Bag is a hard act to follow. Today's project isn't quite a spectacular, but I think just as cute. ;)

I'm always surprised by what can be done with scraps.
Explains why my scrap bin is overflowing ...
Here's what I managed to eke out from the Messenger Bag leftovers.
A coordinating pencil case!
Cute, eh? She said she wanted to sleep with it. ;) I think that means she likes it.
Even the zipper pull is a fabric scrap ... 3/8" x 6". Little fingers really appreciate them. FYI, 1/4" is just a bit too narrow. It will rip apart. Just sayin'.
I'll show you little sister's pencil case tomorrow.
PS: Thank you :)

The cuteness level is off the charts! I could use that wonderful little scrappy pencil case for make-up brushes. Or lip gloss. Or as a little travel bag for hand sewing notions or embroidery floss. Or, or, or...so, now we're asking for 2 tutorials! It's your own fault for being so fabulous! :) You did it again!
I agree: two tutorials/patterns are a MUST now! Your own fault;-) And can I please sleep in the case a little while, too? Or even live in it;-) BTW you're amazing, awesome and absolutly adorable!

Oh my goodness! How do you keep coming up with these things? You are one amazing lady and I want you for my BFF! And, yes, I agree with the others......another tutorial is in order!
I want one!! I want one!! I don't even carry pencils and I want one! ;0
Awesome as usual!
I love the pencil case and have just been to see the messenger bag - they're both wonderful and she's going to be the envy of the playground!
Lovely - and inspiration to organise my scrap basket - it barely fits under the table any more, it is piled so high!
Get any cuter or more clever and it's over between us!!! Kidding but I think you know what I mean you genius you! xo
Uh... so I JUST saw the messeger bag and now this and well... it was like Ginger Rogers & Fred Astaire were dancing in my heart. I was singing "Heaven...I'm in heaven!" It is FABULOUS and everyone is saying what I've said for a while now - we need bag help and you're the lady. HAHA!
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, it all and I want to be your daughter too...I might even be willing to go back to 5th grade.

I'm with Debbie...I'll go back to 5th grade if I get a messenger bag! ;0
Kristyne,
WOW! Missed seeing the messenger bag yesterday so I was in for a double treat today. Both bags are just as cute as can be. Your daughter is most fortunate to carry those to school. Write up the patterns and you have a sale. :) You have a gift for sewing and creating, for sure. It is fun to see pictures of your creations.
Ok now, I want one too. Do you use a pattern? Isn't it time to share with your faithful followers, please?
Wonderful pencil case. And a wonderful bag too. You are a talented woman. You sure get in and DO when you decide to do something. Love it.
I love the pencil case as much as the bag. Please make a pattern for both. I have enjoyed your blog so much and want to make everything you make. You inspire me to attack my stash! Thanks for sharing.
Once again ADORABLE. What a lucky daughter you have. She must know she is very loved, when her mom makes her such fabulous beauties.
i love it!! I love those fabrics!
You have some lucky daughters, you are making them the most adorable things! I found your website when Camille tweeted a picture of your bag and I stayed up late last night reading older blog entries. LOVE your blog and your sewing! Keep up the fabulous work!
My goodness, I wish I could sew like you!! Or have you for a mom, your girls are so lucky!! This made me think that I can't wait for my boys to be old enough to go to school so I can make a cute pencil case, then I read the comment about using it for makeup brushes. Perfect!! Now I need one! :)
