Farmer's Wife Quilt Along Week 40

Yellow, Gray & White

Ok.  How nerdy am I?  Omg, seriously nerdy.  I can't help it.  It's embarrassing.  Lemme 'splain.

I want my FW quilt to look balanced ... you know, not too much or too little of any color.  This is how I'm keeping track ...

I would TOTALLY not blame you right now for putting your finger & thumb in the shape of a "L" on your forehead ... I totally deserve it.

This week I looked for the 2 most lacking colors and they happen to be yellow & gray.

I know.

Sad.

And totally O.C.D. nerdy.

#109 - Windows

I thought of going red with the 2 inner triangles, but I've done that lots already ...

And since last week's fussy cutting turned out so well, I kept on going!

#28 - Duck & Ducklings

And the nerdiness continues ...

How on earth could I NOT make ducklings yellow?  I mean seriously people!  My ducklings HAD to be yellow.  I couldn't live with a quilt that had pink or blue ducklings. I just couldn't.

(Note to self - DUCKLING is my new favorite word.)

And in case you're wondering how I justified the gray, the ducklings are walking across a paved road.

Don't worry.  They get to the other side safely.  I made sure it was a quiet country road.

You. Just. Crack. Me. Up.

Seriously will be imagining ducklings crossing a quiet country road all day long now. Hope they are following mama.

And this post shows exactly why I heart you so much! Long Live Nerds!!! 'Cause I am one. I think your spreadsheet makes PERFECT sense. And, yes, ducklings only come in yellow! And how is it that I don't care for yellow, yet I can't stop staring at these beauties?! The yellow and gray together make my eyes happy! :)

You can't beat a spreadsheet for keeping track of colours - it's just the sort of thing I do! Love the yellow and grey blocks, especially the ducklings walking across the road!

Lovely blocks, again.

If you want to be a real nead :-), you name those columns by colour and then put number one to every row (that marks your block) when you use that colour. To the last line you put a function called sum. It calculates those ones so you don't have to count them yourself.

Happy "nerding" and sewing!

Those tiny little rosebuds! I could die. Just right now. I could die.

I wouldn't call that OCD, I'd call that brilliant!

Week 40 already?? Wow time does fly and I haven't even completed block one yet...I am behind. Anyways, on my last quilt I made I did the same sort of mathematical figuring just so that my quilt was balanced. So there are others like you out there!

Oh my! Not Nerdy--Not OCD!! Totally Brilliant! I need to do this! I must do this! I am going to do this!

\\\"Make Way for Ducklings\\\"...our favorite children's book! If you've never read it, you need to find it!

Oh - I am definitely going to steal this ideal! I have been putting of starting the Farmer's Wife as I can be so OCD about distributing color. What a fantastic idea!! Your blocks look so perfectly pieced. Great job!!

February 27, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterAudrey

I totally love that you did this! The blocks are fabulous.

I'm OCD like that too! Whew, I thought it was just me. We joke at our house that we are CDO (because then it is in alphabetical order) haha. Could you tell me how you are piecing your blocks? Paper piecing or just super careful? The book gives no tips.
