Farmer's Wife Quilt Along Week 53
June 4, 2012
These last 5 blocks seem more painful than the 36 hours of labor I endured with my first child.
Block #5th Last -
This week I just threw up my hands and made checkerboards like my favorite postage stamp blocks but with alternating whites.
And slightly larger squares so I only had to cut 50 instead of 64. Plus it was a nice way to use up a few little bitty scraps.
Block #4th Last
Two more weeks, three more blocks to deliver ...

Beautiful blocks! Like your labor totally worth the time;-) Hildy
I love the little postage stamps! You are a trooper!!! Practice your labor breathing. Maybe it will help get you through the worst of the pain. Hee.Hee.Hooooo.Hee.Hee.Hoooo. Yeah, right. ;)
hehe, you're too funny! Ahhh, brings back memories that are all too recent. Still waiting for those stretch marks to fade though =) Can't wait to see it all put together!
I always had this little ambition to make a quilt but if it's like childbirth I don't think I'll bother!! ;)

Keep going, you can do it!
seriously, i shouldn't laugh because that all sounds so B.A.D. but i did laugh. sowy. ;p the blocks are beautiful but i now understand why you've 'closed' the baby factory after two!
burn the farmer's wife book before anyone else gets sucked into that vacuum. burn it! burn it!! would you please tell lisa not to start it? i won't see her for 3 yrs! ;p
So worth it! They are lovely and inspiring as always. NOW, I can't wait to see how you put the whole thing together!! I'm thinking on point for mine, but I only have 15 blocks:( and you can lead the way!! I'll pass on the labor pains, though. - Linda
LOL.... you crack me up.... I love the postage stamp blocks!!! There's something about the white that just pops all the other colors - I am so excited to see this baby!
So funny! Keep going, love these blocks, they are so pretty!! xo Heather
These are some of your best blocks and should look really sweet with the others. Goshj,I feel your pain with such a large project, we all feel that way at the end. I was really hurting for you and that terrible labor story, how horrible that was for you. You show real stamina wth this project!!! Hang in there, this too shall pass!!
Me again,I forgot to post,I received my order of needles in the mail today taht you recommended! So happy that came, hope she put some of your magic in that package!! Thanks,I am off to a good start!
PUSH!!! lol...and stop your whining. four days...with both my boys, the second one was induced! after two days, they took me out of the labor room and put me in a storage closet...not even a door, just a curtain...the nurses would check in at the beginning of their shift and exclaim, are you still here? fortunately, long labors make beautiful babies, and this quilt is gonna be beautiful!
You know that you could put yourself out of this misery and just "have the baby!!!" lol Looks so good, though. Way to go.
i love those! seriously you have the best ideas for FW blocks! i love the postage stamp one too and i like the alternating whites. i was so afraid to break the rules and do extras of my favorites, but you've made it seem OK to do just do what i want. :) Thanks amazing sewing friend!!!
That does it. I am SO not giving birth. I'll make a quilt though. ;-p
Speaking of, have decided to start my FW over (no biggie as I'm only 6 blocks in.) I fell so hard for those Antique Flowers fabrics with their browns/pinks/silvery greens, and think I'll wait for them to come out and try again. I am stalking my usual online sources. :-o
I've so enjoyed following your journey as you have made these blocks. I so sorry it's been such an uphill finish. I'm planning to start this quilt myself soon, and I was wondering if a fat eighth bundle would be enough. Do you have a general idea of how much fabric you used. Would I be better off with a fat quarter bundle?
Again, thanks for sharing!
Breathe, Girl, Breathe!!!
The blocks look lovely, just like the baby does after all of that hard work.....
