still hexagoning

I have another batch of 26 hexagon diamonds done.

I can't make any more until I join these blocks into rows because I'm out of templates.  Again.  (I think maybe I should just go get some more.)

And this stack includes some of my new Liberty Tana Lawns ...

You guys, this next one is reeeeeally really dark.

As in really.

Dark.

I wouldn't normally go for this print.  It's not quite me.  But I forced myself to buy it because I wanted to have some "edgy" fabrics in the mix.  It's hard for me to do this, but I so often find that the most interesting quilts are the ones that have those oddball colours & prints thrown in.  So I'm stepping a little outside my comfort zone with this one.

I did a preliminary layout with my new diamonds and this one DEFINITELY stands out during "the squint test".  But I'm only slightly uncomfortable with it ... not overwhelmingly.  So I'm gonna use it.

And if I don't like it when the quilt is done, I'll tell myself to grow up and get over it already.

'Cause it is a beautiful fabric.

No matter how I feel about it.

I am so impressed with your drive and motivation. I love your work and can't wait to see photos of your finished hexagon quilt. It is going to be so beautiful. I love those new Liberty Tana Lawn fabrics too...there's just something about small floral prints that captures my heart. Have a great day :-)

I am really liking your hexies. That darker one is nice too but if you think it's too dark, perhaps you could get another print/s that is/are somewhat lighter than it, to span the gap. Then it wont be so noticeable. Does that make sense? Then again I do like your very brave attitude to stepping outside your comfort zone!!

I keep meaning to ask if you are cutting each hexi by hand using scissors? I've looked back through past blog entries, but can't seem to find where you talked about this question.

I love it! I love ALL the fabrics! It's so pretty. But, I don't see it as that dark...it could be me. It looks like the green one, only blue/pink. I too have moments with fabric- sometimes I can't decide if I absolutely love it or don't like it at all! : ) I think you will be pleasantly surprised.
And good for you for keeping an open mind and going with it. I think it's going to be just lovely!

This my be a stupid question but since you are using templates do you cut your fabric in hexagon or what shape do you cut your fabric. I've wanted to do a hexagon quilt but can't bring myself to spend the time cutting out the hexies.

Thanks,
Jodi

I made purple hex flower garden quilt with green between each flower....I spent a winter dragging that thing around in a tin to my sons hockey games. But it's gone missing. I'm heartbroken. Anyway...the paper that I used were those stupid mail in subscription things that fall out of magazines as the paper. Hand basted (seemed like millions of them) then whip stitched together. It was a scrap quilt. No two fabrics ever backed up agains each other. or touched. I wonder where it is?

Love the Gelato blocks! Very creative and fun for a childs quilt.

What fun your block; my favorite ice cream flavor is Hagan Dasz (?) Creme Brulette (?) you know, like the custard dessert, yummmmm!! I do not purchase it too often because, well, it is really rich! I have gotten into the hex mode also with 3 quilts in progress. However, I am doing very big hexes using the Accuquilt Go Cutter to cut out the hexes, 9 inch. Big hexes = big quilt in less time!!

Never had a Gelato either but my favorite flavor ice cream would be the one and only chocolate!
