pastel ice cream cones

Do you remember this?  I liked it so much I made 40 of these pastel ones.  But they've been haunting my sewing room for a loooong time.  After I made them, I laid them out on my living room floor, decided I didn't really like them (too busy?  too sweet?  too something?  I don't know), stacked them up again and put them away.

So now as I wade though my seemingly endless number of unfinished sewing projects - that I bothered to pack up and move - and try to decide which ones are worth doing and which ones are no longer calling my name, this one bubbled to the top of my "I really want to make you" list.

Once the top was all pieced together, I fell in love with this quilt.  Hard.  And then I did that other thing we crafters sometimes do and wondered why in the world I didn't think of this idea before and why did it take me so long to finish?!  LOL!  Oh it is so pretty and soft and lovely.  The taupe calms down the super busy flowers and cuts the sweetness to just the right amount.  I'll show you the whole thing when I have it quilted and bound.

I love the ice cream cone blocks! I don't know how they could be any more perfect. I don't think I could give them up, if I were you. They are girly but grown up at the same time. Love the plaid cones. Beautiful!

Sometimes I think that we put things aside only because the inspiration has not really hit us yet. Then, after not thinking and about and giving it a break, it suddenly comes to us what a project needs and voila a great project is born. it is lovely.

Hi, hi, so recognizable! I had a baby boy quilt in 16patch like that. When I finally finished it as a gift for a baby a friend was expecting, I wondered why I never bothered to finish it for one of my own kids... it was beautiful! Sometimes a quilt only shows it's true beauty when it's all quilted. Before that point it can seem flat and uninspired.

Beautiful. Sometimes some of the things we resist the most, become the dearest to us. Years ago in therapy, I learned that some of the people we need and want most in our life, we do our best to shove away. We treat them worse than we realize and still expect them to be in our life. Sometimes I think it's the same way with fabric. Some of the fabrics to which we are attracted, we don't know how to properly handle, so we treat them "unkindly" and end up realizing how much of a love affair we really do have with them. I love the ice cream cones. Perfect for a baby. It would make an adorable "birthday quilt," too! I could see the age and name embroidered in the ice cream. See, I've fallen in love with the quilt, too. Thanks for sharing. It would make a wonderful charity quilt for needy toddlers or even a teen who loves ice cream. A couple at church just took custody of a 14 year old niece who had issues due to fetal alcohol. She was adopted by another family member. They will be legal guardians until she is 18. Wouldn't this be a great quilt for her? See you have at least got my creative juices flowing.

I know quite a few days have gone by since you wrote this post, but 2 days before it was written, I had a baby :) His name is Liam and he's quite perfect. Not exactly what you were looking for, but I thought it was funny. I've only just gotten around to reading your blog again. Beautiful quilt. I'm sure it will make some little girl very happy :)
