little ... as in really little

Surprise!  I know - twice in two days!  :)

So we went to a really nice place for Sunday brunch over the holidays and there were these super duper teeny tiny wee little single-serving glass jam jars on the table.  (I may have walked out of the restaurant with a pocket-full ... or two ... of these jars.  Maybe.  Maybe not.  Just sayin'.)

Anyhow, here's what I did with one of those jars.

Cute, eh?

I know, you'd think it's more cute than useful.  (Although - for the record - cute things are in and of themselves totally useful by their very nature, right?  How can you not smile when you see something that's cute because it's little?)

It's true, the tufting on top is as high as I could make it without it looking dumb.  And long pins don't work well.  It's perfect for applique pins, though.  And I've put some tiny buttons in it.  I have been keeping my ring thread cutter in it because I'm always misplacing that little sucker - it fits perfectly inside the jar and the jar is way easier to find.  However - ironically - I took that ring out of the jar the other day and ... now I can't find it.  Again.

Go figure.

Ok, definitely tiny and cute, which is enough, it doesn't have to be anything else for it to win preferred display space and an automatic in for my decorating. However, you have shown that by its very nature, I.e. cute and tiny, it was the perfect place to store something important. It made the storage memorable! Therefore, undeniably we have cute, tiny, AND useful! The perfect trifecta in decorative sewing :) magistra13@yahoo.com

It would make you smile seeing it sit somewhere in a sewing room. I saved a bunch of tiny sample Bonne Maman jam jars from a food expo and have been wondering what to do with them - thanks for an idea!

Love it , I always 'help out' restaurants by removing (stealing) those little jars for them too! ;)

Your pin cushion is so stinking cute. You will find you ring thread cutter where you lest expect it. That sounds like something I would do.
Hope you have a great day.

Extremely cute. I used those wee jam jars for - wait for it - my own home made jam. Not nearly as cute as what you've done though.

That is so special! I would love to see what a ring thread cutter looks like, so if you find it you must share. Sounds like a handy gadget!

This is super cute! I have several of those little 1/4 pint jars. I use them for storing herbs and spices. But I may have to check thrift stores for some more to make pin cushions for gifts.

My sister brought me a bunch of those from New York. I've never seen them in my neck of the woods. They really are cute, so many fun things to use them for.
