Project Simplify - Day 42
Here's our version of Happy-Go-Lucky. We're calling it "Rolling Stones". My helper has no clue who They are, nor does she know anything about not gathering moss. But when I suggested the name she clapped her hands, pointed at me and shouted "Bingo!" (I suspect she was simply tired of the whole naming exercise and just wanted to be done with it already ... apparently, our definitions of "fun" differ greatly. Sigh.)
I've chosen an organization to give this quilt to for a fundraising event. My brother-in-law is the music director for Orchestra Iowa and they have an annual Silent Auction fundraiser in November. I'm very excited to contribute both the quilt & the pillow to help the arts.
My older daughter plays piano and the younger plays violin. (Maybe it'd be more accurate at this stage to say they're taking lessons ... ;)
I took piano lessons growing up and feel strongly that learning music has far-reaching benefits. I'm very lucky that I can offer the same opportunity to my girls. Although I do have my days when I swear I'm gonna go all "Van Gogh" if I have to listen to "Twinkle Twinkle" one.more.time. ...! kidding ;)
Now this quilt comes with a monogram option. I love it and really wanted to include it. But considering I'm donating this quilt and don't know the recipient I thought it best to leave it out. It is a super cute thing to add, though. I love personal touches like that.
Oh I almost forgot. At one point during my 4-day marathon Stones FMQing, I was in my husband's office and noticed this:
Nearly peed my pants laughing!
Alright. Where are we in the Stash Redux department?
- Yardage - 8.6 yds / 7.9 m
- Weight - 2.1 lbs / .9 kg
For a grand total of:
- Yardage - 59 yds / 54 m
- Weight - 21.1 lbs / 9.8 kg
Only two more quilts left!

Oh, I love your quilt although the colors are still not mine, sorry;-)

Those stones they get everywhere!!
Perhaps when you find out who gets the quilt you could offer the monogram, that would be a lovely touch. :)

Kristyne, this was worth the wait, I LOVE this quilt! The colors and the quilting make me want to relax by our pond while reading a good book. I should think that the quilt auction will bring in a good sum of money to the orchestra.
What are you going to do when you are finished with Project Simplify? What will the rest of us do without you working on this???? You have a responsibility to come up with something equally entertaining and educational ! LOL
I love the colours in this quilt! I'm not at all musical, but my son had clarinet and saxaphone lessons at school (he didn't keep it up though). My father and sister used to play violin - I'm not saying they were bad, but the dog would howl .....
This is such a stunning quilt! I love seeing it in a color palette that contrasts so starkly with Camille's quilt! On a sidenote, I cannot believe you're only two quilts away from "finishing" this book. I covet your diligence and focus. I'm also crazy-excited to see your version of the bowtie quilt - that's the quilt that made me buy the book.
I think it would be fun to include a box of kleenex with the quilt....'cause you know someone is gonna cry when they win that quilt! ;0
Baby you're a fool to cry....Honey you're a fool to cry...and it makes me wonder why (imagine song notes all around that and mick jagger hitting his highest notes for 'why')
Ok..next question..will the Iowa Orchestra have an online option for the silent auction? You know this would give us all a chance to help support them and a chance to own this awesome quilt...it really turned out so beautiful and so different from Camille's version in the book...and I do like it without the additional boarder. What do you have up your sleeve to start after Simplify...you realize you make my day when I get to peep into your world of quilting! Two thumbs up my dear! Lisa in Texas
Wow!! Stunning quilt as are all the quilts you have made! I bought "Simplify" before you started doing each quilt--it has been such fun to see the different colors and your own unique twist on the quilts. Amazing!
I just love your blog. It is right at the top of my favorites list. Can't wait to see what you make next! You are such an inspiration. I love that, although you may feel a little unsure about something new, you jump right in and try it any way. I just started quilting and you have motivated me to try new things. Thanks! Keep up the great work!
The quilt is beautiful and should fetch a great amount for the auction. :)
Love the quilt...and it will be a perfect fundraiser for the auction.
I laughed when I saw your pic of the Kleenex box...although they look like peeled potatoes to me!...lol
That quilt should be in a quilt show! What a beautiful quilt, a real work of art! When you stand by the views of mountains and see the beauty around you and sigh. That describes this quilt.
Be still my heart... a matching quilt for my favorite pillow? Please say these are coming to live with me... please? ;-)
So funny about the pebble kleenex box! It was fate :)
You did it again! Beautiful job! LOVE the name! And your little helper sounds adorable! So far, my little helper is showing beginning signs of a fabric obsession. Hmmm...wonder where she gets that from. ;)
I stumbled upon you blog and glad I did. Never thought much about the book but after seeing your creations, I've got to have one. Road trip this weekend to my favorite quilt store. Love all the pillows, quilts, etc that you have shared.
I'll be so sad when you finish Project Simplify...I so admire your dedication and amazing skills, and have simply loved following your journey!
The quilting is so perfect for those colours. The quilt looks wonderful.
