Project Simplify - Day 43
Second last quilt. Yikes, can you believe it? I'm having so much fun I really don't want this project to end. I wish there was a Simplfy: Volume II book ...
And for all of you lovelies who asked what I'll do next (and for the few of you who informed me I have a social obligation to continue with my little monkey & organ-grinder side show here in blogland!), I really don't know yet. I've been thinking about that a lot, but haven't come up with anything that really floats my boat, if you know what I mean. I'm open to suggestions, though.
Kay. "All in the Family". I love this quilt. I think mostly because Camille talks about her family's quilting heritage, which I sort of envy, since I have no quilting ancestors at all. But I love that kind of stuff ... the passing on of skill and traditions and passions to the next generation.
So what fabric am I going to use? Well, I tried really hard to use all of Roman Holiday for Spot On, but that didn't happen. ;)
Let's try again, shall we?
I think I'm so determined to use Roman Holiday because a few years ago I made a quilt (I'll tell you about it another time, promise) and this was supposed to be the backing.
That is until I was accidentally looking on eBay and found something I liked better for that quilt ...
(You can't honestly be surprised it's pink, can you?!)
Anyhow, I've had this huge backing all folded up waiting to be used. It's time.
PS: Anyone else still "La la la la-ing" along with Bert & Ernie? My girls hit replay all afternoon yesterday ...

Honestly I think Roman Holiday is not so good just because the colors are to near to Camilles version and one thing that project simplify should teach you is to do a completly other version of the quilt, isn´t it? How about that: use your scrap bag (I´m sure you have ine, don´t you?) or leftovers from all 'project simplify projects' so far (btw great idea for the last quilt)?
And hey I totally agree with you about Simplify Vol.2!

Kristyne,
Help! I'm new to Moda fabric. How did you go about buying Roman Holiday. Did you buy a yard of everything in that series? I'm trying to figure out your thought process. I have a small stash, but it's willie nillie. Fat quarters are nice but you don't get everything in the series. When you see a fabric series you like, are you saying, this would make a great quilt and then buy x amount of each piece in the series? I know this seems stupid but I would really like to know.
You can start your own quilting tradition Kristyne and pass all your skills on to your daughters. You will be 'that' ancestor!

Kristyne, I am so glad you took my other post to heart and realize how much we readers depend on you..(LOL)..for a chuckle now and then, and lots of inspiration! If you use Roman Holiday for this next project, you will make it your own, even though the colors are similar to Camille's. Part of your motivation is to make due with what you have, right?? So many of the other projects have pink and red, if you mix in some browns and blues, the result will be a gorgeous quilt that is a little different that the rest (kind of like your Rolling Stones quilt and pillow). I say, go for it!!
Well, we should all beg Lady Camille to write a second book, yes?! Or you could quilt through all of her patterns. (Swoon!)
Roman Holiday is gorgeous. I love Carole Y.'s question! Would you be willing to do a blog post on fabric purchasing? "Accidentally looking on ebay"? That sounds like something I would say to my hubby! :)
As for La la la la la-ing...it happens around here quite frequently! Here's to starting new family quilt traditions with our families!
I agree with Caroly Y and A Little Blue Dragonfly - how do you purchase fabric?!? I bought Jelly rolls the last two times - just to go easy on myself - and it took my all to open them up, they're so cute! I told my husband I might have to buy two of the same jellies just so I can still look at the Jelly roll when I'm done wtih the quilt! I have a store that has 40% off every Wed night so I need pointers!!!
YAY!!! More Roman Holiday!! La, la, la, la, more 3 Sisters! ;0
Both my grandmother and my great aunt were quilters. Neither one of them passed it on to me but my grandmother did give me 2 quilts that she made with other women in the 1930s. She gave them to me when I was 16. Now THAT's trust. ;0
I love the fabric, and if you decide not to use, I will give it a good home and lots of love - it can sit on the shelf nearest to the woodburning stove to stay warm in winter!
I think you're well on your way to passing along quilting to your daughter, since she's had so much input with the Simplify projects ;) I've said it before, and I'll say it again, Roman Holiday rocks! I'd love to see you put some of it to work! Heh, it's a good thing we don't have to account for all those times that we "accidentally" find that perfect fabric. I'd be in some serious trouble.
Ohhh, can't wait to see how it turns out! By the way, a few months ago, you sent me a list of local quilt shops. I managed to find Out of Hand and I'm in love (I went in for a few min's and came out $220 poorer...). Thanks for the heads up about that store!
Oh this quilt will be beautiful in Roman Holiday!! It looks like you will have plenty of it leftover for another project as well. Hey...you could make MATCHING quilts! one for twin beds?
Well when I finally get around to using my Simplify book I am making that quilt with Simple Abundance. Two reasons for that - I LOVE the look of the quilt in the book AND I have a JR of it already on the shelf. :D
Okay you convinced my go with roman holidays! It is a gorgous fabric line, of course.
