Project Simplify - Day 38
Oooh, I'm very excited about this palette.
See?
I know. It's a head-scratcher to me as well why I love these muddy, earthy, nature-inspired Japanese prints. They're such a departure from my shabby chic, girly, pink, soft, pastel esthetic. But I do love 'em.
I have a funny story for you about one of these fabrics.
I made Happy Hauntings by the lovely Verna Mosquera a few years ago in a lovely selection of Japanese fabrics. This print was used for the skeleton:
Ever since then, I can't look at this print without thinking of bone marrow.
I mean, come ON! Doesn't this look like the holes in the middle of a bone?!
I've tried to use this fabric in a few projects, but I just keep seeing bone! Has that ever happened to you - somehow getting a weird association with a print and then you can't NOT think about it?
But for this quilt, the little corner pieces are so small that the "marrow effect" won't be seen ... I hope! ;)

i love the tones in these fabrics. Very nice. I suppose i should get hunting for whites and creams if i want a white wonderland christmas bedroom! And extra thick wadding. Perhaps i should rip open the duvet and make myself an eiderdown :p
Me too, I love those earthy shades too but I'm trying hard not to think about bone marrow!!!

okay, i'll step up to the plate....send the fabric to me. i don't have an 'aversion' to it and i promise to actually cut into it and make something! ;0
I think those colors are very soothing nature colors in comparison to other nature colors like vibrant blues, greens, and purples! They are beachy so if one loves the ocean then they would be drawn to these colors. All kinds of variations on nature and this is just another one of them........and I guess I have never seen bone marrow so I am not seeing the bone thing!!
As soon as I saw the fabrics I thought 'Japanese'!! I love those muddy, earthy tones. My local quilt store has some Japanese fabrics in those colours - but they are very expensive!
I can't wait to see the finished product...I thinking that it will be a very relaxing, peaceful quilt that you want to snuggle up with after a bad day...and yes, I get the bone marrow thing, you are goofy! Lisa in Texas
Hahaha, very funny, the 'bone marrow' association! The fabrics look lovely, and I'm sure you'll make something wonderful again :-). Hugs!
My first pillow was a school project when I was about 14 years. It was two colored, a blue flower fabric and a white one with blue stars. Whenever I see blue stars on a white fabric I think about my pillow. Funny isnĀ“t it?
Hope you take the rose ones for your quilt, I love them!

I like the writing structure of your blog and it does a pretty decent job of presenting the material. kebjiu kebjiu - louboutin schaussures.
