The Cost of Vanity ...

is measured in fabric?

          *          *          *          *          *          *          *           *

Have you ever gone on an extended vacation for oh, I dunno, let's just throw a number out there ... say, 43 days ... for example.  But you forgot to pack this seemingly insignificant little device that lives quietly in your medicine cabinet in the bathroom.

After about a week, you realize this beauty accessory was left behind and the internal argument begins.  See, you've bought cheap tweezers in the past and over the years you've established a general policy, that for such things, either invest in the good stuff or don't bother.

But good tweezers are about $10.  And you go through life comparing the price of just about every non-essential purchase to the cost of fabric - in this case, 3 or 4 fat quarters.  You reason that you already have a perfectly good pair at home.  Why buy another pair and be stuck with two?  Because graying hair aside, there is NO WAY you're EVER going to forget to pack them again.  What a waste of ... fabric, right?

So I pose the question to all you hard core fabric lovers:  would YOU be prepared to spend most of your vacation looking like the love child of hers

and his

for the sake of fabric?

Now I'm not admitting anything here, but let's just say my husband values personality over looks.  ;)

LOL!!!!! Doesn't everyone compare the price of non-essential purchases to the price of fabric? Fabric is WAY prettier than a pair of tweezers. That's just my opinion. :)

I'm starting to wonder if we are long, lost sisters...or at least cousins. Actually a few years ago I had a similar incident. I did succumb and now own two pairs, but one lives in my travel bag.

Well, the good news here is that with age my eyebrows no longer need to be plucked. Seriously. Bad news, I need the good tweezers for the ugly black mustache hairs. That just proves that I AM Tom Selleck's love child. I couldn't be his lover. No, I'm the love child who now needs tweezers for the mustache hairs.

BTW, I was a reddish blonde in my youth. I am now a 'out of the bottle blonde'. Can someone PLEASE explain to me why the mustache hair is black??!!

Back to topic: yes, I equate almost every purchase with 'that's fabric money!' We don't need to eat this week. ;0

I so agree with you. I wear the same clothes year after year. I will not spend money on clothes when I could buy fabric. But....at my age, I need tweezers!!

Again your blog made me laugh so hard I nearly droped of my chair;-) I think we quilters always compare the value of whatever to the price of a FQ. And why not? We all NEED fabric (okay and sometimes tweezers).

You're too funny! I'd look a lot worse before I'd spend good fabric money on silly tweezers! Speaking of which, I have your good goody goods waiting!!!

This is SO hilarious! I always forget the tweezers and have the exact same internal dilemma every time - nobody else has ever talked about it. Very funny!!!
