Farmer's Wife Quilt Along Week 13
Pink, Green & Yellow
#48 - Homeward Bound
I know, I know, the gingham is touching itself again. It bugs me a little bit here, but not as much as this block. I'll keep this around as a reminder to not do it again ;).
#4 - Basket Weave
I was very deliberate about my fabric placement for this block. Depending on how many fabrics are used and where they are positioned, sometimes I can see a ... well ... a notorious WWII symbol. Once I see it, I can't NOT see it. So I didn't follow the layout as in the book.
I think this layout has a more pinwheel-y, windmill-y look. Pinwheels & windmills are friendly, right? I mean, how can you not like them? (Don Quixote doesn't count. He's banana-nuts-crazy. Oh, and plus he isn't real.)

Again I'm in love with your blocks. They're absolutly adorable and I like the white centre in block #48.

I noticed the original block looked exactly like the symbol we all detest and thought I would also change it up a bit. I love your version and the pinwheel is super friendly!
Pretty blocks again. I too had to change the layout of basket weave, like you, the swastika was the only thing I could see in the book's version.
I am beginning to think I am just not a gingham girl - but I love the other fabrics!
Absolutely, it so looks like a windmill! ;)

Okay, am I the ONLY one who thought this was funny:
"I know, I know, the gingham is touching itself again." ??!!
I've been spending too much time in the gutter, I guess. ;0
Anywho, I love the blocks....I always do! ;0
Nope, Ina, I giggled about that too! We are so mature. ;-)
K- totally with you on the basketweave, I am planning on doing the same! As always, your blocks are so lovely.
I LOVE your beautiful blocks. The fabrics are adorable.
Got my day's worth of laughs - thank you! Beautiful blocks once again!
It was nice to know I was not the only one bothered by the WWII symbol, that seemed to appear in that particular block. I changed the block pattern a bit, as well. I am new to your blog and am enjoying browsing. I love your fabric choices!
Everyone's comments are so stinkin' funny today! :) I can't help it- I'm still loving the gingham! I didn't know I liked it so much until your blocks. :) The colors are amazing!
im always impressed by your blocks. ive had so many 6" squares left over ive been trying to get ideas to use them up! currently cutting up bunting!
I'm making the farmer's wife quilt in a local class of women, and I thought the same thing about the basket weave block, and was very careful about the colors I chose.
Love your colors- they are very fresh and happy!
that's so funny... I'm not even doing any of the blocks that look remotely like you know what... but it's okay for me because i won't be doing all the blocks anyway, those were easy to cross off the list. you did a great job! xo amy
