Across the Pond Pouch
As I promised last week, here is the first mini-charm square project. I picked the new "Butterscotch & Roses" by Fig Tree to start.
She was pretty easy, quick and fun to make!
Here's how it went.
First, the squares sewn together and quilted. The pattern doesn't say to quilt the patchwork, but I did anyways because ... well ... because that's just the way I roll. ;)
Found an older Fig Tree FQ my stash for the lining - perfect!
I didn't feel like going all the way to the store just for a zipper so I used the best color match I had on hand. Not bad!
And I always trace templates so I can preserve the original. (Learned that one the hard way ...)
Here are the 2 body pieces & the lining cut out.
(Sorry, I got so into my sewing I TOTALLY forgot to take zipper installation photos!)
The outside ...
And the lining ...
There just so happened to be two cream squares in the pack so I deviated from the pattern again (call me a rebel!) and added these little fabric tabs to the zipper ends - just makes for a little nicer finish, I think.
They aren't necessary ...
But see how they look?
And one more leftover square - cut diagonally - makes the perfect little zipper pull.
Just as pretty on the inside. ;)
Not bad for 39 - 2 1/2" squares, half a FQ, batting scraps, a zipper and a few hours.
Super cute, eh? If you're interested in me making another one of these as a tutorial, please leave me a comment. If there's enough interest, I'd be happy to do one up. :)

Oh yes please a tutorial, i know i will get lost on the zipper part but i would really like to give it a go and thanks as i guess you will have to make another one when you are going to the trouble of making a tutorial for us.
I love your blog your quilt projects are great. I love the bag wish had more info.
I just found your SWEET blog! I LOVE all of your colors (my favorites!) and especially the cameo on your header (youngest DD collects them). I have to go to a training inservice in order to volunteer with the elderly -- otherwise I would spend all morning reading your blog!!! Please do a tutorial...I am zipper phobic! Must go back to my 8th grade home ec class. It is a wonder I do quilt -- had to get over all the trauma of making the A line skirt and blouse and my home ec teacher. My BFF put her zipper in upside down (on the hem!) and the teacher's reaction traumatized all of us. I love the little bag -- and just bought a jelly roll of Joanna Figuerora fabric (Breakfast at Tiffany's) because I had a 30% off coupon from my LQS for my birthday (tomorrow) so will try this! Thanks so much!!! I will definitely be back to see all the wonderful info on your blog.
oh, very cute!
You are my hero! A big resounding YES to making another tutorial (if you don't mind, I know it can be a pain to photograph each step along the way!) Thank you so much for sharing!
I am a big fan (although a very silent lurking one! ;) )
Thank you for all the sharing you do on the blog - I think it's awesome!

Hi Kristyne, I posted a comment earlier ,.yes for a tutorial, the zipper! Did you clip it a little where it curves slightly? Making the template,I used my glue stick and adhered it to template plstic.after I printed it out. I have my squres all sewn together and thinging one of these times,I would like to try placing it on the bias! I think I will go aheas and ry the zipper, using some of that Wonder tape for positioning just right,I want those squares to match up acrtoss from each other so perfectly like yours. you sujre are a very neat sewer!!! It is just perfect! Do you know if these mini Charm squares will be widely abailable? They are a dream! i look at your beautuful blog daily, your embroidery is awesome! Looking at that too!!
Lovely! You make it look easy! I have a nice set of minis by Kate Spain I'm going to try this pattern on. Thank you!
I like the tab on the ends of the zipper. How do you add it? I like the way it finishes it off. So cute!
