Still Alive ...
... but not entirely happy.
I haven't actually burst into tears. Yet. But this ride ain't over. And I have PMS. Just sayin'.
(Chocolate can only help so much, ya know?)
But I really miss you guys so I'm just popping in to say "Hey, miss you" and to fill you in on the week's happenings.
The computer switcheroo started out ok, until the final data transfer part when the Mac was saying hello to the PC but the PC was just flat out dissing the Mac. It was being totally rude and obnoxious.
Now my better half is smarter than the average person - especially when it comes to techie stuff - and SHOULD have been able to do it all himself. BUT, because my PC was so (insert expletive here) up he couldn't save it.
So I had to pay some dude the equivalent of waaay too many fat quarters to rescue my email. That took a few days.
Now I'm super crabby because I HATE reading instructions. Oh sweet irony that I'm awesome at writing them ... you'd think I'd appreciate all the work that goes into them. But no. I'm just totally stubborn & immature when it comes to learning new things. What I WANT is to try to do something and have it just magically happen. But if I CAN'T get it right the first time, I want someone right beside me to TELL me or SHOW me what I need to do and that would be it. Yeah, that isn't happening. But never mind that.
I can't remember the last time I didn't have a computer on in my sewing room and felt really ... lost. So I just got to playing with fabric, cutting & sewing. That is until I sliced a good chunk out of my finger. Yes, I will spill blood for the sport of quilting. But it's left me a little handicapped.
And yesterday I woke up with an eye infection. Totally gross. My eye is swollen, it hurts and I have to take drops. AND it's contagious so I'm washing my hands like Lady Macbeth.
Oh. And did I mention it's so cold here in our ridiculously underinsulated 60 year old house that my husband actually slept with a toque (that's pronounced "tooook" and means winter hat, usually knit and made with wool) on account of all the cold air pouring down on his head from the window above the bed.
Gee, nothing like vomiting a barrage of complaints to make you happy to hear from me, eh? Sorry. I guess I just need a sympathetic shoulder.
And sorry also for no pictures. I haven't figured out that bit yet. But hubby promised to help me this weekend so fingers crossed for Monday, kay?
In the meantime, I promise I've not been idle. I've been sewing and stitching away (as best I can with only 9 working fingers and one and a half eyes) and even got a little makeover done in my sewing room. My girlfriend helped me part with about 100 lbs of fabric and I got a new desk ... a really pretty "shabby" one, to go with my pretty new computer. :)
Thanks for listening. Fingers crossed for a productive weekend.
PS: I reeeeeally really do miss you ...

Wow! When it rains, it pours...or so they say. We are complete Mac users here at our household so I didn't think you would run into so many problems. Of course the other ailments aren't really computer problems, just bad timing. I confess I was glad to see a new post this morning; you are missed as well. Hoping all the troubles are behind and the next week will be fabulous.
I missed you, too. And if you need a shoulder to cry here's one for you. Good luck with your injuries and your MAC.
Hildy
I will speak for everyone...WE REALLY MISS YOU! I almost emailed you yesterday just to see how you were doing! Hope you have a great weekend and feel better on all accounts!
I feel your pain (well, maybe not your eye pain)! I am working with 9 fingers also, thanks to an unfortunate interaction with a bread knife. My 7 year old wanted to call me an ambulance as I bled so much lol. Scalpel blades, I can handle, bread knives? Apparently not. On monday we can drown our sorrows in show and tells, goodies and that 100 lbs of fabric. That is if baby doesn't come early (spent a lovely 2 hours of rather strong contractions last night). See you monday (hopefully with only a 4 year old, not a 4 day old =)
Oh you poor girl! Sympathy coming your way big time! Don't you hate it when problems just pile on?? It's so wrong...but you're getting all of these things out of the way so when your new computer is sitting happily on your new desk you can post like crazy! Right now, it seems like we should change your name to Lucky. But things will get better...promise! Have a good cry..that always helps me and probably would do a nice job of washing your 1/2 eye. Just think how much you will appreciate 10 fingers and 2 eyes in a few days. Feel free to post your angst and we will help you through. Would it be wrong to say you are funny when you post your woes?
Welcome back! You'll soon get comfortable with you MAC and wonder how you ever managed before without one! :) Stay warm and healthy!
I hope that it goes better...and that you feel better...soon! HUGS!
I have just decided January is an awful month - unless I'm snowed in by myself with no one to care for - I love the Lady Macbeth line. Hope the computer is happy soon!
Oh you poor dear. :( My sister lives there too and I sure pity you. Us here in BC have been complaining of 10cm of snow and -5 temperatures. I would be wearing a touque to bed too if I was in the prairies.
Hope that it all comes back together for you soon. I love your blog posts and have missed them.
Stinkin' PC (hopefully mine doesn't get offended and banish me) I have missed you ans was so happy to see (and read!) your post this morning. I hope all gets better (how could it not?!) in the next few days. I agree with Ruth B, once your MAC is up and running and you get up an running with all fingers, you'll be able to post to your hearts content. We love, support and miss you in the meantime!
BTW - awesome job typing with only 9 fingers :-) HeeHee!
((hugs))
So sorry to hear about your finger and your eye. Hang in there with the computer. I have a Mac and it is a bit of a learning curve but you will get it. I am no techie so if I can do it you sure can. Hope all goes better soon.
Good luck. Sounds pretty awful. xo
My sympathies. When my PC died, it died dead. There was no saving anything. I had an eye infection once - sympathies on that, too. I was in the middle of a divorce and looked like he punched me! I'll bet that's how you feel, too - punched.
It's time to move south of the border... ;p
I've missed you!If getting older has one benefit, it is no longer having the dreaded pms!! Sorry about your poor finger and eye. Hope you are all better soon and the computer stuff gets all sorted out ...... I generally swear at mine and threaten to throw it out of the window!!
hang in there...you'll love your mac...it's just gonna take time! Can't wait to see your newly done sewing room and what you've been working on. Get better soon! It's dangerous being a sewing blogger isn't it!? Better days for you are on the way...I'm sure of it.
I was wondering where you were...I've had withdrawal. :) Hope that everything gets better soon!
Life is filled with peaks and valleys -- you know I know all about that. You'll be at a peak again soon and when you are we'll all be here to celebrate with you. But, oh to be a bug on the wall in your sewing room during all the fun!
Oh man you have had some seriously bad luck! It has to turn around sometime, right? My MIL chopped off a big chunk of her left index finger with a rotary cutter a few years back. She had to go in and have an artery cauterized because she had severed it and wouldn't stop bleeding. It was scary at the time but now we just joke about it! I have had a Mac for the past six years and I promise that once you get all the kinks worked out you will love it! They are so much easier to use and they just work when you need them to! I hope things start getting a little better. Hang in until then!
I miss you to!!! I look forward to your posts and to go days without any is really hard. You have spoiled me and I so enjoy everything you share. Good luck with the new computer, hurt finger and bad eye!!! Hope to see you back in full swing next week. Thanks for a great blog.
Hang in there. I'm just like you in the getting it done right the first time and then wanting someone there to take over when it doesn't. Thanks to being an army wife and sometimes not having anyone around to "fix" things, I have become a little more self reliant. I love my mac and still haven't read the instruction book. Three years and counting that one day I'll sit and read the instructions....lol. I'm always so excited when I do learn a new thing about it!
Things couldn't get much worse for you, so am hoping you have a stress-free weekend with a little relaxing time. Looking forward to photos next week. Would love to see the new "shabby" desk and the new computer.
Welcome back. I also missed you and was hoping you were okay. And you are...sorta. I am a mac user/lover. Once you get used to it, they are far less problematic in many ways, than a PC. Knock on woo, but I've never had a virus on mine. I know you are sewing up a storm, but if you need to complain, we're here. That's the best part of blogging. Your readers care about you. Hope you have a great weekend. :)
Hey I thought that the cold weather would just give you reason to do more sewing! I have seen you do more in worse shape than nine fingered and half blind, Suck it up princess and get those pictures up.
Love ya!
If you need MAC help call, if I can teach Kinders to do it I am sure you will be fine.

Hey Kristyne! This is going to really cheer you up: I know you love Yoko Saito as much as I do so.....in the new Quiltmania magazine (issue 87) there is the first part of a Yoko Saito Mystery Quilt and it is just way too cute! I've spent the better part of this afternoon going through this wonderful magazine and when I got to the Yoko Saito Mystery Quilt part I just about fell over with joy! If you can, be sure to pick up a copy of this issue as I know you will love it and the frustrations and blues that you are going through will be gone instantly!
Sometimes you just have to vent! I had a cruddy day today involving a computer and simply trying to get set up with a router. After almost an entire day I still have no router hook-up. Supposedly the card that reads that stuff is bad (on a computer I've had less than a month) and the foreign tech lady wanted us to open the back of the computer and take it out. We turned and turned on those screws with no luck, so I guess this baby's going back to the store. A whole dumb day wasted that I had planned on spending on major sewing. I think that's what makes me madder than anything else.
I'll anxously be awaiting pictures of what you've been sewing.
Poor Pretty! Take a breath and we'll see you on Monday!
So great to hear from you Kristyne!! I am like the others, checking every single day to see if you had posted, having withdrawl also, just winced reading about your MAC, hand and your eyes,I had one of those eye infections once,it was nasty, but got better quickly with the drops.. Our weatherman calls that weather a "cuddle alert"!! And where did that beautiful fabric go? I was hoping you would open an ETSY shop for us!! We can help you a lot!!! Now we can all appreciate every littel thing even more. Every day when I saw that picture of that plug, I thought,it isn;t going well. I appreciate you giving us a heads up on your progress! I think the worst is behind you now!!! Hugs to you. We miss you!
i will happily listen to your venting! that is what girlfriends are for, eventhough we have never met...hehehe. Hope this finds you feeling a bit better. all i can say is, whatever possessed you to buy a mac? we have some in the breakroom at work, and i cant even figure out how to get online...!
Sounds like you need a big hug and a girls night in! Complete with PJ's and wine! Also sounds like you need us to send you a bit of our Australian sun to warm you up a bit. Thinking of you and sending warm, Aussie hugs! Xx
Oh, you poor girl! So sorry to hear of all your mishaps, let alone the whole computer crud. But in spite of it, you're great sense of humor is coming through loud and clear. You always give me a good chortle. Just know we're all out her waiting for you and your GREAT pics and GREAT writing. Be well and stay warm.
Oh sweetie, what an awful week you've been having! Don't worry about complaining, that's what blogfriends are for. I hope and I'm sure next week will be better. Enjoy your weekend!
OMG couldn't you just have one at a time like everyone else!!! Big Hugs ;-) On a purely selfish note hurry up and get better I need you.... I am up to "H" on my Daisychain sampler so catching up with you fast, I use your pictures to see how mine should look!!!!!! I can sympathise with the house, our house was built in 1924 we still have to replace some of the single glazed windows (two rooms) if we have really really really freezing temperatures we get ice on the INSIDE of those windows!! Brrrr. My next place is going to a fully modernised small bungalow, double glazed, central heated all singing all dancing .....my renovating days are over. xxx
hugs +++ with stacks of TLC on top, sorry to hear how rough it has been for you. Hope it goes better real soon.
Miss K, my sled dog team is ready....I've packed chocolate, embroidery, and my Garmin. Just say the WORD and I will be up there in a flash to rescue you from your little shop of horrors. Really, I will. Remember code is 'Calgon....take me away....!' ;p
Have a lovely weekend and for goodness sake don't let anything else happen to you! ;p
Hi Kristyne!! Soooooooo lovely to hear from you!!!!! ;)
Chin up it will all be lovely soon. I've had no computer all week either and it's been a right pain so I know partly how you feel. Fraid I can't empathize with you on the finger and eye but you know sometimes I think human bits are easier fixed than computer bits!!
V x
:o( I am soooo sorry... I wish I could bring you dinner! And I would! :O) Miss you!!!!! I hate when stuff like this piles up and is such a set back to the best laid plans. Hope you are up and running again very very soon! Can't wait to see what you've been up to... don't slice anything else off - k? Hope your eye is healing and you are back to 100% asap! Bod/computer/blog and all! Hugs!
You're precious! What a week. Glad you're coming back though... and I can't wait to see all you've been working on!
Not to mention that I'm about a week away from sharing my next FMQ project. Just need to bind it first!
I have missed you too, I so enjoy your blog, You are so funny even when in pain. My son has a mac and loves it. I of course cant do anything with it. He also owns a Prius, cant get used to a car that you cant hear running...LOL.
I am sure you will love the Mac once you get used to it. Heres to you feeling better soon. Bet you still get more done with 9 fingers and 1 1/2 eyes then most of us!
Sorry to hear you're having such a rotten time of it...we miss you! Take care and good luck!
Am sending you cyberspace chocolate coz altho it won't fix anything it sure does make things more bearable. Missed you & glad to see you back in blogland albeit ... 9 fingered with an eye infection (hope it clears quickly)!
