Farmer's Wife Quilt Along Week 36

Red, White & Gray

#69 - Practical Orchard

Whenever I hear the word "orchard" I think "apple".  I don't know why.  There are no apple orchards where I live.  Come to think of it there aren't ANY orchards around here.

And I have no family or holiday association with apple orchards.

But that's where my brain goes.  So my Practical Orchard symbolizes apples.  Handy that red is my accent color. ;)

And I couldn't resist throwing in a few apple blossoms with the floral gray.

#90 - Storm Signal

This block looks totally different than I thought it would.  But I really like it - especially when I turn it on point.

I think it's going to play very nicely with the other blocks.

Well what a great week this has been ... just as long as I don't count the night I had insomnia and thought watching Slumdog Millionaire at 2:30 a.m. was a good idea.  It is listed as a Romantic Drama.  Omg.  Seriously?!  THAT is not my idea of romance.  People if you haven't seen it yet let me warn you like I wasn't ... it is NOT a feel-good movie!!!  I managed 1/2 hr of horrific images before I just couldn't take it anymore.  And then I spent the rest of the night browsing the Comedy section of Netfilx looking for an antidote.

Aah, but now the weekend is here and sewing can cure just about anything, right?! :)  See ya'll next week.

I had the same reaction to that movie. Not my cuppa tea at all! Love the red, white and gray blocks.

I felt the same way about Slumdog...great but disturbing movie. My friend went to India a few summers ago, and was forever a changed woman....she said India is just as, or more disturbing than the movie. Horrible and beautiful at the same time. Sounds like quite the country to see!
ps you have me wanting to plant an orchard in our yard. I miss being able to grow whatever I want, and am determined to make an English Country garden you'd be proud of. Care to visit? We could take tea by the roses, and perhaps wander through the lavender gardens. Just give me a few years =) (did I tell you that we loooove to garden?).

I finally tried to watch Slumdog for the first time. last week. I watched about 20 minutes. Too much torturing of the kid for me and based on a true story or not, I just couldn't watch.
I think apple when I hear orchard too, not peach, plum or pear. Hmmm, no orchards near me either!

I loved that movie but it is a rough one to watch. I own my favorite movies. That way I can pop one in if I'm sick or staying up late to sew. I highly recomend Bridget Jones' Diary. Of course, Jane Austin has been made into some wonderful movies.

Anywho, I love the red and gray and I'm so happy the blocks are all getting along...none of that 'touching' itself stuff going on anymore. ;p

Have an awesome weekend. Maybe we'll 'see' ya on Monday?

ya, i am not very good with those types of movies....i've never seen that one, but i would definitely be searching for the cheesy chick flicks after that.

happy weekend!!!

Beautiful blocks. Love the red, grey, and white together. I can't wait to see it playing nicely with all the other blocks.

Never seen the movie and not sure I could handle it. If Bambi made me cry.... :/

Hope you found something good to watch later.

Happy crafting beautiful blocks.

I had the same reaction to the movie. It was truly heartbreaking. On a different note, I do love the gray, red and white blocks. They are very cheery. Try listening to an upbeat movie to keep your dewing energy on the go-go, like a Laura Croft action adventure! I love movies with strong female characters. :)

Hi, Will there be a 2014 quilt along? I am a beginner/intermediate quilter and did a sampler quilt from "A Farm Journal Craft Book: Let's Make a Patchwork Quilt" by Jessica Mac Donald and Marian H Shafer ( I actually taught myself how to sew using their wonderful step by step directions and their easy to understand terminology etc)/ However, this was so many years ago that quilting has changed somewhat with the advent of new ideas and rotary cutters! I think I would enjoy the challenge, even is I only do a lap quilt...Thanks. Peggy
