Daisychain Sampler "Z"

Or rather "ZED" as we call it here in Canada ... to much irritation of some foreigners. ;)

Is it just me or is it kinda sad that my Sampler is done?

Well, I guess now I'm faced with deciding on how to finish it.

I know for sure it'll be a wall hanging of some sort.

But do I just stick it in a store-bought frame?

Or do I do some sort of patchwork frame around it?

'Cause remember, I based all my floss colors on these fabrics ...

and these ...

So, I've got a lot to work with.

Any suggestions?

Beautiful workmanship!!!! Love that fabric line! Sorry, no useful suggestions about finishing. But I know you will come up with something great - you always do!!! You should write a book...

I love the sampler!

I vote patchwork border! Those fabrics are too yummy not to show them off! :) And although an American, I've always thought "Zed" sounded way cooler than "Z"!

Oh wow! That outline stitch just popped the satin stitch over the top... love it! This is soooo pretty! I originally was thinking get it framed... BUT THEN... I saw all the fabrics laying with it and had totally forgotten you picked your floss colors to work with it... oh wow - something PRETTY BY HAND to finish it would be amazing!

First, congrats for finishing your sampler, it's beautiful! Second, here in germany we call 'Z' 'Zet' perhaps that's where it come in canada from? Third, I vote for some patchwork-style frame but not to busy because the sampler should be the star, right? Perhaps one fabric as passepartout and then some squares as frame? I know that whatever you'll make it'll be wonderful! Hildy

Your sampler has turned out fabulous!! Great work! I think a lovely ornate vintage'y gold frame could work well? but a simple border in one fabric choice could be pretty too. Perhaps nothing too busy as you want your beautiful work to shine! :D
Jessie, xo
p.s. I say 'zed' too! it makes sense that way ;)

Definitely a patchwork quilted border/frame! Lovely handwork.

Your sampler looks beautiful with all the letters finished including the 'Zed'. I'm British and it is definitely 'Zed' where I originate from!! Why not give it a patchwork border to emphasize the colours and then pop it in a frame to protect the stitching from dust and dirt. Beautiful work! :)

I vote for sending it to ME! Not buying it? Okay, I'll have to drown my disappointment in Papa Chocolat! You're faulty...totally! ;p

Gorgeous! Such beautiful stitching. I would do something around it with that beautiful fabric....just unsure what to do.

July 4, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterkatherine

Dresden plate frame? :)

The colors match too well to NOT do something patchworky with the sampler.

It is gorgeous! I love it!

I am very bad deciding what to do with beautiful things like this one. This is why it is so hard to finish things...

LOVE it! I think you should just sit and admire it for a while! I'm sure you will be inspired to do something even more lovely with it!

Gorgeous. I vote frame and make a wall hanging with your fabric to adorn your walls. Lovely. At least that is what I'm gonna do. Inspired by you mine too is based on fabric.

July 4, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterVonna

So hard to say. Your embroidery is so beautiful I think it should be showcased in a frame. But with a patchwork border in some of the softer, lighter fabrics as shown in the last photo, so as not to detract from the fabulous stitching. We say zed here in our family, too. But hey, we're Canadian, eh.

It's a lovely piece of work. What are the finished dimensions? You could always start another one and work it in different colours. Bright, wild, maybe?

July 4, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterDolores

It's 'zed' here in New Zealand too! Your sampler is gorgeous!

July 4, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterHelen

you really dont want to be finished, do you? keep going! a crazy border with more stitchin would be lovely.

July 4, 2012 | Unregistered Commentermiss jamee

Cannot beleive you are finished!! Each letter is perfection, patchwork would only add to the lovliness. Your stitchery is very advanced and I love to just study each letter. I hope you find another proejct like this!!

We say zed in australia too! Love the sampler, am liking the patchwork fabric border but what ever you decide will be lovely.

July 4, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterHelen

Your sampler is so beautiful. I think pretty borders using your lovely fabrics and a big girly frame will be lovely - a one colour frame with lots of mouldings.

July 4, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterlynda

It's "zed" here in Australia too, which is the right way lol. Well done, the sampler looks just beautiful, maybe the centre of a cushion for your bed! but anything using those fabrics would look good. Oh, by the way, if you don't want to use the fabrics I would be happy to let you keep them at my place, just for safe (hehe) keeping.

Yay! you have finished. I am still at "U" . Mine is definitely going in a frame, in the winter we have a wood burner going all day and night and the dust is unbelievable.....I am not risking this getting dirty after all the work put into it. :-) Linda

Zed from Oz too. Suggest you wander round garage sales (in Aust) Car boot sales (UK) there may be a picture in it but a great way to find frames. Also use a couple or more fabrics as background, I'd choose a solid first then test out your fabrics for a pattern....then have fun....dare I add you could add a daisy flower here & there.
Enjoy

I had forgotten about the fabric! Your sampler is beautiful! I think some patchwork around it would be a great idea and then frame it to protect it. Some hand appliqué, something floral, might be really nice too.

July 5, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterDonna

It's gorgeous! Those colors look wonderful. :)

July 5, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterLauren aka Giddy99

zed! zed! zed! I'd rather be known for saying zed than for ending every sentence with ,eh?
I am so enarmoured with your sampler, I have always wanted one but have come to the conclusion if I ever actually get one, it will be cause I made it! Well, I will just continue to dream of one in the future, eh?

July 5, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSusan Being Snippy

It's definitely 'zed'!!!!

Your sampler is fabulous and if it were mine (if only!) I'd be tempted to try a patchwork border and maybe add an accent border or a flange? (ugh, I hate that word!!)

Your sampler is absolutely beautiful! Great work!! xo Heather

This is beautiful work. Did you get this from a pattern? I would love to do something like this to sharpen up on my embroidery skills. Thank you for sharing.

July 6, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterWendy

I think a beautiful pillow would be awesome. Do at least three frame borders. If you do the fabrics light (closest to the sampler) to darkest it will make your eyes focus on the sampler. Would be beautiful!

July 6, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterLisa McGRiff

I love your embroidery so dearly!! I especially love the way you use value in it, its easy to only use pastels but I love the pops of brightness that come through and really make it look perfect

July 6, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSara

I really love your embroidery, it looks just wonderful and I especially like it when you quilt then finish with the stitching.

July 6, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterLindy

Clever you for finishing your sampler - and the zed is just great (it's what we say down under too!). How about some cute little pinwheels in your fabrics as one border? Have fun!

July 7, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterMeredithe

You made me giggle. Here in Australia we say Zed too, and Zee really annoys me when said by Australians! Your stitchery is gorgeous, well done!

July 11, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSarah
Okay, we need to know how you finished your sampler? Did you frame it? :)
June 17, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterMichelle
I love this sampler. I always have since you posted it back in 2011. So now, in 2017 I think I'm going to tackle it. I say "tackle" b/c I'm not a highly talented embroiderer like you are but...I've practiced and I'm game!
So, quick question you may not know...do you know what fabric you embroidered on? It's not in the Paris Flea Market line, that I can see. I like that it's light in color but now bland. Any idea? If not, it's okay.
Also, I am going to try Cosmo embroidery for it too! I've always used DMC but I'm on full-board!
I just have to add too that the "O" made me to happy. : )

BTW...where did you end up putting it? Did you do the patchwork around it and frame it?
I don't know where I will put mine yet...but I haven't even started so I may be getting ahead of myself.
Thanks again! : )
