Remedial Math

Hey ya'll.  Just wanted to apologize to all of you who subscribe to my blog and found a 2-week old post in your inbox this weekend.  It wasn't supposed to happen and I have no idea why it did ... some technical anomaly, I guess.  It's a free subscription service and I don't have any control over it.  Sorry!

No I didn't forget about this baby quilt for my girlfriend's granddaughter.  Just got a little sidetracked lately.  You know how it is.

I made scrappy binding for this quilt because I didn't buy yardage - only fat quarters.

It seems, however, I could use some practice when it comes to calculating how much binding to make.

You'd be surprised to know how often this happens.

Two years ago today ...

Oh my, that happens to me so often as well. It's like someone is playing pranks on me now and then and is secretly gniffling away in a corner when I find out about it. So frustrating!

The fabrics look lovely though. I am sure she will be so happy with it!

those fabrics are beautiful! are they a collection or did you just match them all together? I just finished piecing my first quilt top last night so will be quilting and binding in the next couple of weeks. after seeing this, i'm going to be sure to make extra binding! :-)

looking forward to seeing the full quilt when you are done.

I love all of your projects because I love ALL of your fabrics. I will tell you my favorite tool in the world. It's on my smart phone and it's an app and it's by Robert Kaufman. Quilting Calc. OH MY, key in the measurements of your quilt, what size binding and it tells you exactly how much you need!

Honestly this never happened to me with binding but with background fabric ... although I'm using a lot more math due do the whole sewing thing than I'd ever thought I would;-)

I audibly gasped. I may have said a curse word in my head on your behalf. Haven't we all been there? It's good to know it's not just us beginning quilters. =)

I always add 12 inches to my measurements, it allows for turning corners and making sure I don't come up short. It has worked so far.

I totally look forward to your posts! They make me feel like we are just sitting in the shade drinking tea while sharing some delicious girl time.

Your binding post reminds me that our minds try to juggle a kazillion things all at once. Sometimes I feel like my attention span is about as long as that of my grandchildren's new puppy... about 10 seconds!
