i found the iron!!!

I know that was keeping you at night, wondering how I was going to survive without it. ;)

But now I can't find my tripod for my camera.  I don't even remember packing it so I have no clue where to look.  I know it's here somewhere.

You know, one of the hardest things for me to cope with in life is when something goes missing.  I went to the edge of insanity more than once as a mom - kids have a way of losing brand new things within days of you buying them.  My brain turns into scrambled eggs when I can't find something and everything feels wrong - like I'm wearing a suit made of sandpaper ... inside out.  I wasn't too worried about the iron because I specifically remembered packing it - although the fact that I spent 2 hours looking for it may give me away as a liar on that one. ;)

But now my tripod ...

And the brackets for a curtain rod.

The title of this post made me smile. I remember too well those thoughts of "I know I packed that thing. There was nothing left at the old place. So it has got to be here somewhere." Many, many moves over the years and I still have that happen! Hang in there, soon all will be unpacked and living in their new "homes" so that you always know where to find them.

I also hate losing things - I once searched for what felt like hours (maybe two but it felt longer) for my tape measure (not a fancy one, just a bog standard 60" tape measure) and then again the next day and the day after until I found it. It would have been less hassle to go to the shop and buy a new one but it wouldn't have been the same!! Glad you found the iron - good luck in the 'if I were a tripod/brackets, where would I be?' game. Also, calling nicely to them to come out is much more effective that shouting! ;o)

I can so relate to your frustration. Being a creature of habit (big time) I've had to deal with the fact that I've somehow managed to lose one of my rotary cutters (six months and counting!). I can see myself with that cutter in my hand and instead of being a creature of habit (ie putting the cutter down on my cutting mat) I'm turning around to look for something and the next thing I know I'm missing a rotary cutter. I've torn apart my room several times but alas no cutter!! Hoping your search ends successfully!!!

Hi, glad I am not the only one who goes nuts looking for stuff that's lost! The fridge ate my cheese last week, then put it in the little shelf in the door just to annoy me! Good luck with the unpacking. Regards Sharon

I am so enjoying your posts as I too am in the process of moving. 23 years and 4 children and 1 mom (me)
Who quilts and stitches and knits and collects and.......and one husband who has never said more then a few words about all the treasures I have brought into the house over the years........
Well, it's a lot more fun accumulating and making pretty things then packing and getting rid of pretty things to downsize ( or should I say "right size")
I can see the end of the tunnel but it's still a ways away.....I am glad you are finished with he worst part. I hope you love love love your new house.
Thanks or your insight on letting go and moving onward and upward :)

HA HA HA!! I understand! Boy, do I understand! Shortly after our last move, I rushed into the living room, looking and feeling beyond frazzled, and roared, "WHERE ARE THE TONGS!!??"

Everyone just looked at me, then went back to eating pizza and watching television. One of the boys' friends was over, and I distinctly remember my youngest saying, "Dude, it's okay. This happens every time we move."

A couple of days later, I triumphantly announced that I HAD FOUND THE TONGS!

My oldest son put his hands on my shoulders, looked me in the eye, and said, "Mom, I'm so proud of you," and then gave me a big hug. While laughing. (Apparently, I raised a bunch of smart-alecks.)

When you lose the thing, it's as if something in the universe is off just a little bit, isn't it?

Quick solution: Go buy a new tripod and curtain rod brackets. Be sure to hang on to the receipts though because the next box you open will have one or the other, maybe both, safely packed away inside. If you packed any boxes of hanging clothes, that would be a great place to look for a tripod. Brackets...maybe in the box where you packed the curtains (?). Now's the time to use your wonderful visualization skills to help you figure out in which box they're playing hide-n-seek.

Best way to find things is stop looking for them. They're like little children if you stop looking and pretend you're not interest in finding them anymore they'll come and out with 'Tada, here I am'!

I have the solution... simply stop finding the tripod and start looking for another losing thing... and you will find the tripod... and other things you found in the past days.

I so relate to your problem.....I cannot function until I find something I have put in that special place.
We are still looking for a set of car and house keys I put in a special place while on a trip last winter.
Must say this is the longest I have gone with the item not found at all.

When I can't find something--nothing. Else. Matters. I feel your pain. Enjoy settling in. Next month I am going to Calgary to visit my father in law. Is there a shop you recommend?
