crouching tripod, hidden brackets

Thank you for all the good advice about how to find lost things.  Stop looking - totally worked for the tripod.  Buy replacements - also totally worked.

The tripod was lying of the floor, tucked behind a bunch of pictures that were leaning against a wall.  I found it while looking for something else.

And this morning I popped into Ikea for some pant hangers, laundry hampers and replacement curtain rod brackets.  An hour later I was tidying up and found the original brackets wrapped inside a facecloth.  On the fireplace mantle.  Right where I put them.  Where they've been sitting for over a week.  I've looked stared at that cloth dozens of times wondering who put it there and why.  (sheepish grin.)

My house is still too embarassingly disorganized to show you.  And we're still missing things like lighting (we picked 1/2 of what we need and they are on order.  My husband and I - as I've learned through this building process - are good a making decisions and we always totally or nearly agree on everything.  But holy cow are we ever slower than molasses.  Sheesh.  Where most people only need one appointment to pick stuff, we take two or even three.  To all the experts who helped us make our selections, thank you and I'm very sorry.)

We also need most of the closets to be fitted with shelving so I can put stuff away.  The legs for the powder room sink finally arrived, but they aren't installed yet.  It'll be nice to have hardware in the bathrooms to hang towels and tp.  The windows are f.i.l.t.h.y. and will remain so until all the work is done.

And then there are still all the boxes.  It feels like they're multiplying rather than reducing in numbers.  I've heard stories about people who moved years ago and STILL have unpacked boxes.  Please let that not be me.  Everytime I open a new box I'm hopeful that I can get rid of something inside.  That hasn't happened as often as I'd like.

I'm encouraging my girls to give me a round of applause everytime I empty another box.  Those poor children.  I think they think they have the nuttiest mother ever.  Wait 'til they're older and their suspicions are confirmed.

So.  Still moving forward.  Still moving slowly.

Still not ready to sew.

But I'm starting to see a light.  Thanks for hanging in here with me.  I really do appreciate the company. :)  xo k

I am so glad you found your missing things! It is so challenging to move. Packing, unpacking, cleaning, making decisions you don't want to make. I know I was so glad when our move was over but then we remodeled and that was a lot more decisions! :-) I am looking forward to when you can sew again. You always make the prettiest things. K-

I moved at the end of April to my finance's home. I left work at 4:00 and drove two hours to his city where he had moved my things a week earlier. Even though we took several boxes in the weeks before the big move, his place was stuffed with my furniture and unopened boxes. What a mess. I thought I'd never get unpacked.

But everything has been put away. My only thought about all of it is that I'll never do it again!

We'll be moving next spring - so I'm already going through EVERYTHING and either tossing or donating! I feel your pain!

Oh, I.so.understand!! It has just been 2 years since our move. Our cat LOVED climbing and laying on all the boxes. But what really sticks in my mind is how such a 'little' thing drove me to tears in the end - after getting rid of so many of our mug 'collection' I still had too many for the cupboard spot in the 'new place'. Those mugs were great to tuck into the little left over spots in the boxes, but in the end I didn't want to see another mug - to unwrap it. It sounds funny now, but at the time.....! No, I don't think your crazy for having your kids applaud every time a box in empty. I'm applauding too! Good Job!

I am so glad you are sharing this adventure, as we are currently selling our home and then will move into our already purchased next home. Oh the boxes.....I have all of this to look forward to. At least I will see the end of tunnel when I see others have gone through the same thing. Can't wait until I can sew again!! Kristy PS. As my mom always used to say..."this too shall pass."

We just moved a month ago and although most of the boxes are unloaded, stuff is lying everywhere and driving me crazy. I have to install shelving to take care of most of it and buy furniture (cheaply) to take care of the rest of it. And my sewing room doesn't have a closet which creates a whole other set of problems! I feel your pain and know that I'm sharing in your search and find episodes :)

We moved into our current home 10 years ago and the memory is still so fresh that in spite of the fact that I would like to move to a one story home without a pool I tremble thinking of the boxing it all up process! I decided that this year I would give our kitchen cabinets a fresh coat of paint and even though I started doing it two weeks ago I am moving like a snail. I am cleaning them out and hopefully getting rid of some things as I paint the insides of each one. Sadly the get rid of pile is way too small. :(. Keep chipping away at it and you'll get it done. Thanks for keeping us updated, we are so excited to see your new place.

I do a happy dance every time I empty the dishwasher. And I don't even think that's as hard as emptying a packing box. At least if yours are packed anything like mine. The last time we moved was out of our college apt, and everything was so disorganized to begin with, we just shoved everything into any box that was partially empty...still have a few we haven't unpacked. So applause for you for setting a good example for the rest of us. :D And nuttiest mother is not the worst title in the world.... :D

Hi Kristyne,
Remember to blame Murphy's law for all of those things that hide from you while you search here, there and everywhere, finally finding that *thing* hiding in plain sight. There is nothing to be done other than exactly what you are doing! Get by day to day and do as much as you feel you can, celebrating every little accomplishment with that applause and more tea and pastries. You'll be working off any extra calories emptying boxes and running back and forth to the bakery. No worries!
Take care and keep your wonderful humor handy.
Betsy
