Project Simplify - Day 48
July 28, 2011 Alright. Top-stitching. What's it gonna be? Well, I can't copy the book this time 'cause Camille had her quilt professionally long-armed. Not an option here for Project Simplify.
My first instinct was to do you know what (shhh, cross-hatch). But that seemed the easy way out. And plus I already did that for Moonlight. And what I reeeeeally wanted to do was another try at flowers. But somehow, flowers just doesn't seem to suit this quilt - not sure why ...
Anyhow, this is what I came up with. Remember this quilt that had 3 different FMQ designs?
Well, it inspired me to do something similar for this quilt.
So I cross-hatched the middle - which looks totally awesome.
Now. About that inner border. It didn't go quite exactly as I'd planned in my head. I didn't want to copy the same loop that I'd done before, so I thought of doing something like this:
But it started out like this ...
... so I went with it ... for a while. But then it started morphing into this ...
... and THEN I got what I had planned! (sort of)
The perfectionist in me is totally annoyed that it's not ... perfect .. or at the very least, consistent. But the realist, humorist, glass-half-full girl in me (oh, and also the mom who's daughter is SO OVER the stitch ripper - bummer) is totally fine with it.
I finished the outer border with my now confident swirly twirly.
I guess you could say - at this point anyway - that "my FMQing is like a box of chocolates ... you never know what you're going to get!" ;)

Wow, your doing a great job and I love your perfect because unperfect design! And totally thank you for showing this, many would have redoing the quilting and just shown the perfect endresult. But your way is so much more helpful for those you are not perfect at quilting (like me;-) Can't wait to see your next project!

Love this, Kristyne! No one will ever notice the difference unless you point it out....so don't!! Especially after it's been washed. I really like the choices you made in quilting for each section....this is just an awesome quilt!!

I'm loving this one! Fabric, pattern, quilting,...everything! Yes, the glass is half full. Not over here so much. :b Got set up to start practicing my fmq-ing, only to find out (after a ton of broken threads!) that my machine needs a low shank adapter and special foot, and you don't set the machine's tension and stitch length like everyone else's machines. Oh well, I WILL get there! I'm more determined now than ever! Thanks for the inspiration! :)

Thank you so much for sharing ALL your FMQ trials, errors & Successes! After following your blog for a while now I took on some FMQing myself. I now have a new and improved appreciation for my quilter :-) I am proud to say I actually finished the quilt - but only because I'd seen your (beautiful) mistakes and knew someone else out there struggles with it also.
So thanks, regardless of the "errors" my 2yr old son has reclaimed my pink quilt and won't allow it off his bed....... :-)
I love your quilt! The only perfect quilts are ones you haven't discovered the mistakes on yet! Thank you for pointing yours out, it makes me feel better about mine, because your quilt still looks awesome, so maybe mine are too!

Your quilting is very pretty. Love the different types. I especially like that last one. I did some free hand yesterday. It is hard! I have such a long way to go. Still can't mix other lines in my quilts yet unless its on the back. You are an artist who shares her quilts and for that you are my hero!
