Daisychain Sampler "U"
Ok, this was kind of a weird one to do.
But also super cool (I think I've been using that phrase too much lately ... but I can't think of any other way to decribe it right now so ... super cool it is.)
I kept thinking feathers on an arrow, as in bow & arrow. Can you see it too? Or am I just going completely mental here?
I was also asked about my needle size yesterday so I thought I'd do a little show & tell on the subject.
My favorite brand - Jeana Kimball's Embroidery/Redwork needles. Love them.
And my favorite size is 10. HOWEVER, I ran out of 10s and have been resorting to an old pack of 9s lately ... which are longer. Embroidery needle numbering is such that the larger the number, the smaller the needle. Totally decided by a man, I'm sure! LOL!
But I don't like buying new needles if I have some that still work, even though they are a little cumbersome.
Anyhow, a #9 embroidery needle is about 1 3/4" long.
I think my needle looks so big in my photos because it's really hard to judge the size of my letters without accurate reference ... they are just over 1 1/4" tall.
Remember, I like little. ;)
And since it's the end of another row ... AND it's Friday ...
(Eeeeeeeeeep!!!!!!)
And one more thing ...
As to my plans for this Sampler when the embroidery is done, still no final decision. But the floss was inspired - in part - by these fabrics ... Moda's Seaside Rose from about 7? - 8? years ago?
I may or may not use them for the finished piece. All I know is that it will become a wallhanging of some sort.
All right, that was 2 weeks of Daisychain Sampler catch up and it sure felt good! But my old tendonitis is starting to bark at me a little and my sister has gone home so I should take a little break. Kay?
Oh wait, and just one MORE thing ... I've had a few questions lately about the floss I'm using.
Here's a link to a previous post with all that info, including where to buy the pattern, the floss and what colors I'm using. There's also a category called Daisychain Sampler under Tags on the right side of my blog where you can check out my progress to date. ;)
Happy weekend everyone!

Thanks for the info, your sampler is delightful. Have you tried the Foxglove Embroidery Needles in a size 11, they are my favorite, and I do happen to know where you can get some. ;-)
Your sampler is beautiful and just amazing embroidery skills! I was told by the doctor that I have tendonitis in the left wrist/forearm area as well and it's because of quilting. It's better now after wearing a brace off/on for nearly a year, but I'm certainly not giving up quilting!
Wow! It's really coming along! I am in love with your matching fabrics!!!!! Romantic and Shabby Chic. :)
First, your 'U' is super cool! Second, I agree with you on the number/needle size thing it was made by a man;-) Oh, and one more thing ... this moda/3 sisters fabric is gorgous hope they'll do a reprint one day (I have a list with reprint ideas in my mind).
One last thing ... happy weekend ! Hildy
Wow! What eye candy for today! Love seeing the progress! And those fabrics! I die! So lovely! Can't wait to see how you finish it! :O) Thanks for the tips on the needles!
Just so very beautiful. Your daughters will be fighting for it to be passed down. You might just have to do another in a different color scheme so you can leave one to each girl! And we want to see progress on that one too.
Squeak! It's stunning!
I think "C" and "H" are my favorites!!!
Looking good Kristyne!! :)
Happy weekend,
Vivienne x
OMG! I use Jeana Kimball's needles as well. Okay, I'm feeling a little smug finding all the things we have in common. Of course, I don't have your fabulous sense of color and design, but as I said before, I'm a copier. LOVE all you do! Take care of that wrist.
I didn't really see the snake but the U looks like a couple of thousand-leggers! Oops. Now you're going to ban me from commenting! :-)
I love this Sampler, tho' not a fave of mine. I've been thinking about giving you this tip for Satin Stitch for days (weeks) so just in case you don't know how to get it all even this is what to do. You like back stitch so just under the outline for the Satin Stich letter stitch an outline with back stitch (or it could be another straight stitch such as outline). Use only one thread same colour as satin stitch. When finished the letter. Finish the thread. Now with the threads for the Satin stitch bring up the first thread/s outside the outline hopefully on the stencil mark then go over to other side and stich over that thread then continue until finished. If the stencil and outline straight/curved so will be the Satin Stitch - is this of any help?
Looking forward to the next instalment. LOL, Susan Sampson from Downunder
WOOPS!!! EEEk. Just read my Post and it sounds like I don't like your sampler what I meant to add is I DON'T LIKE SAMPLERS GENERALLY but I like yours. SORRY, please keep reading about the Satin Stitch. Stitcher - Susan S from Australia.
Love your progress. The colors are so pretty! I can totally see the arrow :). Every progress post gives me more inspiration to start mine.
I just discovered your blog and LOVE your sense of style and color. Thank you for sharing your choice of colors with us.I had bought the sampler a couple years ago but wasn't thrilled with the colors. Yours is so much more to my liking. I think I will start when I'm done my current project. I too am a cross-stitch cross over. I love playing with the colors and the creativity that embroidery allows. ThNks again for sharing your inspiration!
