Yeah, no.

I tried something new ... new as in I've never done it before ... not new as in I'm so brilliant to have just invented quilting with embroidery floss.

Amy quilted around her circle with floss and I love hers.

And Monica did an AMAZING job quilting her Granny Squares with floss.

But I'm only lukewarm about my circle quilting.  And this edging?

Hmmmm, yeah no.

Don't like it.  It's too ... I dunno ... loud?  Too chunky?  I'm not doin' so good with my adjectives today.  It doesn't have the  refined daintiness (better) I'm going for with this project.

And plus I think I pulled my quilting stitches too tight so the circle is all ... hoochy coochy poochy.  (HA!  Take THAT you troublesome English language!!!)  (Just please ignore the "and plus" at the beginning of this paragraph ... I know it's naughty ... but I did it for comedic effect.)

So I unpicked.  All of it.  This pretty little thing is too ... pretty ... to not fix.

Sigh.  No pain, no gain.

I might try it with white perle before I totally ditch the idea. Beautiful quilt!!! You are so talented!

I so much liked the job you did with this little beauty...
But if you can't live with it you did the right thing to pick the stitches out.
I'm curious what you will come up with instead.

Ack. Don't you just hate it when you spend all that time and you aren't happy with the results? Personally, I liked the look of it, but it's way too much work if it doesn't make your heart sing.

I'm with Sharon, I think it'd look more dainty with white floss, or maybe a very pale yellow?

I like all three kinds of stitching but theirs were different from yours. Perhaps it's that difference that's bothering you? You have very pretty little hand quilting stitches - they have stitches with more space between them, not even but more fabric between the thread. Also, the stitching around the blades you did was much closer to the blades than Amy's and maybe your eye preferred that little extra distance.

First, I love your little beauty! Second, I'm glad you didn't finish it yet because mine is still WIP;-) Third, I used floss to quilt my sleepy doll and it worked out. You just have to be careful to quilt not too close to the seam and instead of 'normal' quilting I stitched it. Fourth, I used fusible interfacing. Hope this helped, Hildy

I'm with you. I think the floss is too thick of a look. why not hand quilt it? ;p

lovely anyway! ;p

Oh yes, I'd try a lighter colour. I think the pink was just a little too "look at me look at me!!"

Maybe white floss....but, then again, it is daintier looking without the stitching. I vote for no stitching.

Beautiful work!

I'm just going to have to trust your impeccable tastes on this one, because I really liked it.

Bummer. I hate when I have to do that. I have never tried big stitch quilting, though, and I kind of like the looks of it. Can't wait to see what you do instead. I know how it goes when you aren't getting the 'look' you want. Hard to pull out stitches but you will be happier with the end result! Just for the record - I thought yours looked good!

I love the stitching! Maybe a slightly lighter colour? I love , love the project. I have bought a dresden ruler to do it! Can you still find the fabric you used????

Could always do it in orange! Just kidding! As previous commenters have said, you will know when you see it.

I too have done this little quote but I cheated by doing it on a round vintage doily , didn't have to think about the edge. I have used it on a pillow. What is yours going to be??

Ohh, I kind of liked it! But you know, go with what your gut tells you, because if you really didn't love it - every time you look at it you will think to yourself I should have done it different. I always love the effect of hand quilting ,even with the bigger stitches. Having said that maybe try again with a lighter colour and bigger spacings. I still really liked it though!!

Good for you! If you didn't like it, you would be reminded of that fact every time you looked at it. It's just too pretty not to love! It will be worth the extra steps it takes to get it how you want it!

the outer pink was a little much, but worked on the inner circle and i liked the green on the second circle...perhaps use the darkest white in the background to do the outside??..loving your little bitty stitches!

I'm in agreement with you. Although I thought it was lovely. It's your creation, work, tastes, and joy. You did the right thing to take it out if you just weren't 'feeling' it. I love the dainty look of this project. My Mother would have adored this. ;) It's beautiful. Please post when you are finished so we can all see what you decided to do. I'm curios.
